Robin Tamang was a prominent Nepalese singer, musician, and actor, best known as the front man of the rock band Robin and The New Revolution. Born in Singapore in 1963 to a British Army family, he spent his childhood moving between Hong Kong, Singapore, and Brunei. He was deeply influenced by rock acts like Jimi Hendrix and Deep Purple during his school years. While studying at Humber College in Toronto during the mid-1980s, he formed his second band called Tamang.
He returned to Nepal in 1996 and settled in Pokhara before joining forces with a Kathmandu-based blues-rock band called Looza. Together, they formed Robin n Looza and recorded three albums before parting ways in 2005. Following the split, he formed Robin and The New Revolution, a group he continued to perform and record with for the rest of his life. Beyond his musical achievements, Tamang established a successful acting career in the Nepalese film industry and gained broader international recognition for his role as Yama Nadu in the Amazon Prime series The Last Hour. He passed away at his home in Budhanilkantha, Nepal, on July 4, 2023, at the age of 60.
